FROM NORTH CHESHIRE HERALD 15 12 1961 HEADLINE HYDE MAN FOUND DEAD - Retire works postman - Mr Harold Hadfield, aged 65 of 2 Deal Square Hyde, a retired works postman formerly employed by Ashton Brother and Co Ltd, Hyde, and a very well known man in the town, was found dead at his home at lunchtime on Monday. His next door neighbour Mrs Emily Elizabeth Alcock was passing his house at 1pm and through the window she saw him lying on the floor. Hyde Police and Dr H F Ellis were called and Mr Hadfield was found to be dead. The East Cheshire Coroner (Mr H Sidebottom) ordered a post mortem examination and this revealed death due to natural causes. He dispensed with an inquest. Mr Hadfield is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.

Wounded in action loss of his right eye and gunshot wound under his left eye, discharged no longer fit for war service on 15 5 1918.
